Congratulations to Irene George for St. Francis of Assisi Award
Irene, a junior at Homestead High School, brings energy and creativity to her parish community at Church of the Resurrection. After founding and leading the parish youth group, Iene has inspired her peers to rediscover faith and belonging within the church. She also serves as lector, Cantor, guitarist, and usher at mass, witnessing to Christ through world and music. Irene's joyful discipleship, leadership, and creative ideas have become a source of renewal for parish life. Her commitment to making Christ known through prayer, service, and community beautifully reflects the mission and the spirit of Saint Francis of Assisi.

Loving The Mass, Loving Jesus (Week 4 of 4)
A Four-Weekend Journey Through The Parts Of The Mass
September 28, 2025
We conclude our journey through the parts of the Mass with the Communion and Concluding Rites.
The Communion Rite begins with the Our Father, where we ask for daily bread and Christ Himself answers that prayer by giving us His very Body. Before receiving Him, we exchange the Sign of Peace, a reminder that we cannot cling to grudges while welcoming the Prince of Peace. For Jesus, reconciliation must come first (Mt 5:24). Then, in the Fraction Rite, the host is broken, recalling that Christ was broken so that we might be made whole.
When the people come forward and hear the words, “The Body of Christ,” and respond “Amen,” you are declaring with faith: yes, I believe this is truly Jesus, and yes, I will live as His Body in the world. Communion is not only about receiving Christ but also about becoming Christ. St. Augustine once reminded his people: “Become what you receive.”
At the end of Mass, the words “Go forth” are not a conclusion but a mission. Just as the apostles left the Upper Room to bring Christ to others, we too are sent to carry Him into our homes, workplaces, and communities. The dismissal reminds us that the Mass does not end at the church doors—it continues in the way we live each day.
This Sunday’s homily will invite us to see the dismissal not as an ending, but as our mission to bring Christ to the world.
Fr. Louis

Diocesan Plan Plan Update
September 21, 2025
Dear Parishioners:
Here at our Church of the Resurrection, we have begun putting into action some of our key strategic priorities from the Diocesan Pastoral Plan: Worship, Outreach, Formation, Youth and Young Adults,
Family Ministry, and Structural Renewal.
Worship: For the month of September, we are focusing on a special parish journey—“Loving the Mass, Loving Jesus: A Four-Weekend Journey through the parts of the Mass.” Our goal is to deepen our understanding of the Holy Eucharist, to acknowledge Christ’s Real Presence, and to grow in awareness of the transforming grace that comes from receiving Him.
Outreach: Our parish continues to live out its call to serve through our St. Vincent de Paul outreach, the Tijuana Mission Trips, the weekly Communion Services and monthly celebration of Mass at neighboring nursing facilities, our grief support group, and other ministries of care and compassion. On Sunday September 28th, we will celebrate Service Sunday, giving all parishioners a chance to be involved in our outreach efforts.
Formation: We offer a variety of opportunities for spiritual growth, including weekly Scripture studies, men’s and women’s faith-sharing groups, our weekly Religious Education classes for children, and Christian Initiation for Adults.
Youth and Young Adults: Last Sunday we joyfully launched our Youth Ministry kickoff, welcoming eighteen young people. Our Youth Group now plans to meet every Sunday at 11:15 a.m. to provide a space for faith, fellowship, and service.
These are just some of the ways we are responding to the Diocesan Pastoral Plan. Our Parish Pastoral Council continues to meet monthly to discern activities and programs that will strengthen us on our road to discipleship. More initiatives are in the works, so please stay tuned and seek ways to get involved.
A monthly update on our Pastoral Plan will be posted to our parish website.
Serving you in Christ,
Fr. Mark

Loving The Mass, Loving Jesus (Week 3 of 4)
A Four-Weekend Journey Through The Parts Of The Mass
September 21, 2025
We continue our journey through the Mass with Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Next weekend, we arrive at the very heart of the Mass: The Liturgy of the Eucharist. Here, bread and wine, the gifts of
creation and of human hands, are placed on the altar and through the power of the Holy Spirit and the words of Christ, they become His Body and Blood. It is here that Jesus fulfills His promise: “Do this in memory of me.”
The Liturgy of the Eucharist unfolds in three movements: First comes the Preparation of the Gifts, when bread, wine, and even our own prayers and lives are placed on the altar. Second is the Prayer over the Offerings, when the priest lifts up these gifts and asks God to bless and accept what we bring. Third is the Eucharistic Prayer, the Church’s great prayer of thanksgiving and praise.
At its heart is the epiclesis, the solemn invocation of the Holy Spirit to sanctify the gifts of bread and wine, so that they may become the Body and Blood of Christ. This leads to the moment of consecration, when Christ becomes truly present on the altar. The prayer culminates in the joyful doxology and our wholehearted “Amen.”
From this sacred moment, we are led to Holy Communion, where Christ Himself feeds us with His very life.
Next Sunday’s homily will draw us deeper into this mystery of love with deeper reverence and gratitude, ready to receive the gift of Christ Himself.
Fr. Louis

Loving The Mass, Loving Jesus (Week 2 of 4)
A Four-Weekend Journey Through The Parts Of The Mass
September 14, 2025
We continue our journey through the Mass with Liturgy of the Word.
Here the Church teaches that “when the Scriptures are read, God Himself speaks to His people, and Christ, present in His Word, proclaims the Gospel” (GIRM 29). The readings we hear are not random, but part of a carefully arranged pattern. On Sundays, the Church follows a three-year cycle: Year A focuses on Matthew, Year B on Mark, and Year C on Luke, while the Gospel of John is read during special seasons like Christmas, Lent, and Easter.
The Old Testament recalls God’s saving work with His people and often sheds light on the Gospel we will hear. The psalm is more than a hymn; it is our sung prayer, taken from God’s own inspired hymnal, the Book of Psalms.
The second reading, usually from the letters of St. Paul or another apostle, connects us with the faith of the earliest Church. Finally, in the Gospel Christ Himself speaks. Because of this unique presence of Christ in the Gospel, we stand in reverence, marking our forehead, lips, and heart, praying that His Word may guide our thoughts, words, and lives.
The Homily then unfolds the Word for our daily lives, the Creed is our bold “Yes, Lord, I believe,” and the Prayer of the Faithful turns our listening into prayer for the needs of the Church and the world.
Next Sunday’s homily will invite us to hear the Scriptures not as distant history, but as Christ’s living voice speaking to us and preparing our hearts for the Eucharist that follows.

Loving The Mass, Loving Jesus (Week 1 of 4)
A Four-Weekend Journey Through The Parts Of The Mass
September 7, 2025
This weekend, we begin our special homily series on the parts of the Mass with a focus on the Introductory Rites. These opening moments are not simply a prelude before the “real” Mass begins. The entrance procession, the veneration of the altar, and the Sign of the Cross set the tone: we are entering into holy worship. The greeting, “The Lord be with you,” reminds us that Christ Himself is in our midst. The Act of Penance and the Kyrie (“Lord, have mercy”) purify our hearts, while the Gloria lifts our praise to God. The Collect gathers all our prayers into one, offered to the Father through Christ. Fr. Mark and Fr. Louis will help us rediscover how these opening rites are not routine words but a sacred doorway into the mystery of the Eucharist.

Loving The Mass, Loving Jesus
A Four-Weekend Journey Through The Parts Of The Mass
September 7, 14, 21 and 28, 2025
Our Parish will offer a special series of homilies on the parts of the Mass beginning on Sunday, September 7th through Sunday, September 28th. Please join us each weekend in September as we walk together through the treasure of the Mass!
The Mass, the Holy Eucharist, is the central part of our Catholic life. Every Sunday we gather as a community around the altar of the Lord to give thanks, to be nourished by His Word and His Body, and to be sent forth as His disciples.
Beginning on the first weekend of September and continuing through the last weekend of the month, our parish will offer a special series of homilies on the parts of the Mass. This will be an opportunity for us to revisit the beauty of the liturgy—deepening our understanding and renewing our love for the most important celebration of our Catholic faith.
Our Pastor, Fr. Mark, and our Parochial Vicar, Fr. Louis, are excited to guide us through this journey. Together we will discover not only what we do at Mass, but why we do it, so that we may participate more fully, consciously, and joyfully in this great mystery of faith.
In addition, each week a short write-up will be included in the parish bulletin to help us prepare for the homily and reflect more deeply on the meaning of the Mass.
Join us each weekend in September as we walk together through the treasure of the Mass!
